Commercial Diving vs. Marine Civil Engineering: Clearing Up the Confusion

I've been interested in commercial diving as a career, but a bit concerned about job guarantees after qualification. Yeah, it's a lot of money to invest with no promise of placement.

This got me thinking about other underwater jobs, and marine civil engineering came up. After some research, I'm a bit confused.
What's the exact difference between these two fields? It seems like there's some overlap, making them feel like potentially the same job with different names. Can anyone here give me some clarity?
And what's the age Requirement for Commercial Diving? I'm 37, can I still get in?

Commercial diving and marine civil engineering can overlap sometimes but its mostly always different

While commercial diving is hands on because of things like welding, inspections, repairs underwater and so on, you'll need to attend a certified dive school (expensive, yes), and jobs aren't guaranteed, but plenty of divers find work if they're mobile and persistent.

Now, marine civil engineering is more of design and project management, planning the structures divers work on and it usually requires an engineering degree and stays topside.
Anyway, you're not too old to dive at 37, as far as you're fit
