My 35 YO son's dive career dream

This is something that's been on my mind. My son, bless his heart, is 35 now. He's finally talking about pursuing a career he's always been fascinated by, which is commercial diving.

Now, he's been diving since he was 15, so he's super comfortable in the water. But he's never worked on the rigs or anything like that.

His whole career has been in NDT, he's got his DPI, MPI, RAD, and soon his UT certifications. He's got about 8 years of NDT experience, mostly in the oil/gas industry, but obviously, those tickets are for dry land.

He realizes underwater UT and Visual/Weld Inspection would need more training.

So, for those in the know, is he too old to realistically consider getting into commercial diving at 35, especially since he doesn't have direct rig experience yet?

I'm just wondering what you all think

35? that's not old at all in this line of work, not with solid NDT experience at least, if he's fit, motivated, and willing to put in the time for the diving certs, he's got a good shot. Plenty of guys start later, the rig time will come once he's in, he should go for it
