Best path to commercial diving

My sister is looking into taking a commercial diving course, and she's trying to figure out the best way to get into the industry.

She's a really cool, he is finishing up a welding course at the end of this month, but not sure if she should try to work as a welder for a bit to get some experience or go straight into a diving course.

She lives in Canada now, where the local diving courses are only valid for work there. She's wondering if she should do the shallow diving course in Canada to get started, then go to the US later for an internationally certified course.
Her other option is to just go straight to the US after her welding course.

She's comfortable with different types of dives, but is hoping to get some advice from anyone with experience in the industry.

If she's planning to work internationally, it makes more sense to skip the Canadian-only course and go straight for a US or IMCA-approved certification after finishing her welding program. A bit of welding experience first wouldnt hurt, but diving schools usually train you on underwater welding anyway, so it really comes down to whether she wants to get started quickly in Canada or invest in the bigger ticket that opens doors worldwide. She'll need an international cert like ADCI/IMCA. Welding experience helps but isn't required before school and the Canadian course could be a good test run, but if she wants offshore work abroad, going straight to a US school makes more sense.
