Hello all, I'm new here and planning to enroll at Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle. My cousin trained there in 2021 and said the certs were well recognized but the job hunt was brutal without extra skills. Would adding underwater welding or rigging help me stand out more?

Hello and welcome! Earning your underwater welding certification can greatly enhance your job prospects and salary. Additionally, skills in commercial diving rigging are incredibly valuable. DIT has strong connections in the industry, so be proactive in using their job placement resources!

Absolutely, having a specialty like underwater welding or rigging can make you way more marketable. Basic diving certs get your foot in the door, but companies often look for divers who can handle multiple roles

You both brought up underwater welding and rigging as good ways to stand out, which lines up with what my cousin said after he finished at DIT. He had the main certifications, but still struggled to find steady work until he learned rigging and started making more connections. I checked DIT's placement stats and saw that 92% found jobs last year, which is good to see, but I realize that doesn't mean much without extra skills. I'm planning to enroll in the next few months and want to ensure I'm actually developing skills that employers notice, not just ticking boxes. Do you know if DIT's welding module gives you hands-on practice with wet welds, or is it mostly classroom work? Also, does the rigging part cover both topside and underwater load handling, or just one?
